My Family's Keeper

NEW RELEASE

A cricket autobiography unlike any other; a universal story about how love for your family trumps everything. Specialist Australian wicket-keepers to wear the baggy green are a rare and tough breed. Since 1877, only a select few Australian cricketers have held the sport's toughest on-field position. By the time Brad Haddin declared time on his international career, the stats would put Australia's thirty-third Test wicket-keeper, alongside the greats of the modern era. But it was no easy road for Haddin into the record books. It was a seasoned Haddin who would have to wait for Gilchrist's retirement, to make his Test debut in the West Indies at the age of 30 in 2012. But just four years later, he was swept into a family nightmare, with his wife Karina, when their 16-month-old daughter Mia was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. A one in 100,000 illness, neuroblastoma, attacks children aged five years or younger. On tour in the West Indies when he received the news, Brad relinquished his spot and flew home, walking away from the sport he had given his heart and soul to since childhood. Swapping the patient hours behind the wicket for the emotional rollercoaster of Mia's cancer treatment, cricket would have to wait for Mia's all-clear from the doctors. It would be another year before Brad would claw his way back into the Australian team. But the triumph of the 2013/14 Ashes series would be overshadowed by his controversial omission from the Lord's Test of the doomed 2014/15 Ashes Tour. There would be no come-back. Choosing to call time on his international career, for 37-year-old Haddin there would be no regret, not one bit. My Family's Keeper is a cricket autobiography unlike any other; a universal story about how love for your family trumps everything.
