Brian Alderson was one of the pioneers of children's literature studies in Britain and is a prolific writer, reviewer and translator. His other titles include Swan's Stories (Walker, 1997), Thumbelina (CWP, 2009) and Be Merry and Wise: Children's Books in Britain before 1850 (British Library, 2006).
